About Hannah May 


Singer-songwriter pianist, Hannah May is a rising star among Tasmanian audiences. Her songs shaped in soulful style have been compared to songwriter greats Suzanne Vega, James Taylor and Carole King. Hannah May is bursting with talent, enthusiasm and positive energy.  Hannah May has absorbed influences from both folk pop and jazz music and her eclectic approach makes for entertaining sets of sensitively constructed and thought provoking material often with a strong underlying rhythmic groove.


Her performances major credits include performing alongside Clare Bowditch as part of her Winter Secrets tour in Hobart, backing vocalist for Damon Albarn (Blur) tour of Australia (Palais Theatre and Sydney Opera House) and touring the USA with the ARIA-nominated Southern Gospel Choir.  She has supported Ian Moss, from Cold Chisel, and worked and sung with artists including Monique Brumby, Bobby Flynn and  Wes Carr, Daniel Champagne and The Audreys. Hannah May is currently recording her debut album, The Little Things with engineer, Stewart Long, producer Rob Long and arranger/pianist Matt Boden. In 2018 , 2019 and 2020, she released three singles off the album, ‘Sigh’, ‘Ring The Bell’ and Little Flower. The album is slated for a 2021 release



About Hannah May (singing teacher)


Hannah May is a highly respected and vocal and songwriting teacher and coach based in Hobart, Tasmania to many young singers, performers and writers.  She holds a Bachelor of Music with a major in Contemporary Voice studying under local and interstate vocal coaches at the University of Tasmania, Australia.     


Hannah May  has completed further singing and teaching singing training through a number of courses over  her 10 years of teaching and continues to build upon her professional development. 


Her recent professional development has included Level 1 and Level 2 of Estill Vocal Training, Week 1 and Week 2 of Online Singing Teacher Course with The Vocal Process, and 10 Weeks of Technique with Dane Chalfin. 


She teaches online with lessons and at Mount Carmel College  available to all ages and experience interested in singing, songwriting, recording and piano in all contemporary styles and genres, from pop, to folk, to jazz and rock.  Her style is client lead and lessons are tailed according to student’s needs and passions whether that is purely focusing on singing as a hobby, or pursing goals around performing, further study or audition preparation.    

She also specialises in working with singers or songwriters who may suffer from performance anxiety, or lack of vocal confidence.
